Can Citalopram have a negative effect on people suffering from hepatic insufficiency?

Answers to key questions from experts here at Lundbeck

In a single dose (20 mg) study in 9 patients with hepatic impairment, the oral clearance of citalopram was reduced by one-third and its half-life was doubled compared with that of healthy subjects. Consequently a maximum daily citalopram dose of 30 mg is recommended in patients with hepatic dysfunction (ref.1).
